    What is JSTEM?
    The JSTEM (Journalism, Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) Project Based Inquiry (PBI) is an innovative summer enrichment program offered by UTRGV Continuing Education in partnership with College of Education & P-16 Integration. This program is an opportunity for the area high school students to learn STEM in an authentically situated research setting at UTRGV. Journalism PBI takes place in tandem with STEM PBI and is designed to provide opportunity for students interested in mass communication and marketing to gain hands-on experience under the guidance of experts in the fields. The journalism group will apply what they learned during the camp by chronicling the activities of the STEM students.

    Girls Who Code - Summer Immersion Program

    What can apply?
    Girls, Currently Sophomores & Juniors

    What is this program?
    The Summer Immersion Program is a FREE 7-week summer program for 10th-11th grade girls to learn computer science, get exposure to tech jobs and join a supportive sisterhood of thousands of girls across the US! It is an introductory computer science course and no previous experience is required. We welcome all applicants who have an interest in technology and a willingness to learn!

    Those Who Can, Teach! - Summer Camp 2017 (June 5-9)

    What can apply?
    Current High School Students

    Deadline: February 28, 2017 - Closed

    What is this program?

    This program will engage high school students who are exploring the teaching profession through a week-long action research project that examines the characteristics and best practices of excellent teaching.

    Students will work individually and in groups to discover and understand the qualities and strategies of great educators. In addition, students will use technology to create, communicate, and collaborate in the production of a great teachers and what great teaching looks like, and a final action research video project.

  • Lone Star Leadership Academy - Education in Action

    Who can apply?

    4th - 8th Graders
    In order to participate in the Lone Star Leadership Academy a student must maintain an overall average of 85 or higher, receive a recommendation from an educator based on demonstrated leadership ability (an educator nomination fulfills this requirement), and be involved in school and/or community activities.

    What is Lone Star Leadership Academy?

    Lone Star Leadership Academies are Sunday-Friday overnight camps offered throughout the summer for outstanding 4th-8th graders. Campers have the opportunity to explore significant sites in Texas’ three largest metropolitan areas with other outstanding students… all before 9th grade!

    During the camps, young leaders travel to Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin/San Antonio, or Houston/Galveston for a week of fun, learning, leadership development, and visits to significant Texas sites. In addition to improving their leadership abilities, participants gain self-confidence and independence, and develop new friendships with other high-achieving students from across the state.
